Get More From Your Flying, and Protect Your Investment.  Have a Flying Lesson

Our Chester flying lessons take place overlooking fields, a lake, and some beautiful stands of trees belonging to the Duke of Westminster.  Lessons begin at our Head Office at: The Regus Business Centre, Herons Way, Chester CH4 9QR.  The Regus Business Centre is second on the left after Tetrapak.  But please call to book an appointment before visiting, as the offices are not always manned when we are giving flying lessons

Our lessons are always one-to-one with one of our expert, fully PFCO-qualified and insured drone pilots.  In an hour, we can help you to be a safe drone pilot.  After two hours, you will come away knowing:

  • The less well known but important features of the DJI Go App
  • What to focus on when you are flying
  • Our unique 4:4:3 methodology for flying safely and enjoyably
  • The ten most common reasons people crash, and how to avoid them
  • How to answer the crucial questions “Can I fly here” and “Should I fly here”
  • And of course, you will have done plenty of hands-on flying

Fly Like a Pro, Film Like a Pro

We want all of our clients to be able to Fly Like a Pro, and Film Like a Pro. Having a lesson with us is the best start you can make on your drone adventure.  We all know that to learn a foreign language, you are going to need some lessons.  The same is true of drones.  DJI are right when they say that anyone can fly one of their drones straight out of the box.  But we meet very few self-taught drone pilots who fly as well, as safely, or as effectively as we can show you how to.  Whether you are a complete beginner, or a seasoned drone pilot, you will enjoy your flying far more having had a lesson; confident that you have the skills and knowledge you need to fly safely and effectively every time.  That is the crucial first step to getting the most spectacular video and still photos with your drone.  And that is the lasting joy of flying a drone.

Lessons are generally split roughly 50:50 between theory and practical, hands-on flying. This can be adapted to suit your particular interests: whether you are more interested in hands-on flying, or in understanding the DJI Go app, or knowing more about the route to becoming a Commercial Drone Pilot, for example.

During your lesson, you can fly your own drone (we support all DJI and Yuneec drones), or you can fly one of our DJI Phantom 4s.

Note that drones are not waterproof. So we cannot fly in the rain.  If it looks as though it might rain on the date and time of your lesson, we will contact you a few days beforehand to reschedule your lesson.  If we cannot find an alternative date and time to suit you, we will give you a full refund.

Buy a drone worth more than £750 from us, and get a one-hour flying lesson, worth £120, free of charge.

Not sure about buying a drone? Come and fly one of our DJI Phantom4s. If you buy a drone within 30 days of having a lesson with us, we’ll deduct the £120 cost of a one-hour lesson from the price of the drone.

I’ve been flying fixed wing-aircraft and my DJI Phantom 1 quadcopter as a hobby for around 2 years. As a web designer, photography and videography are services I offer to all of my clients and I was keen to add aerial photography and videography too. With this in mind I researched what was required to fly a UAV commercially and came across PhantomFlightSchool.

I was keen to buy a professional platform that would suit my requirements and decided on the DJI Inspire 1 V2.0. I gave PhantomFlightSchool a call to see if they had one in stock and from the moment I spoke to Alan I knew I had made the right choice. The advice he gave me regarding PfAW certification and where to obtain it was invaluable. I booked a flying lesson for Saturday 27th August (2016).

Alan’s background in education serves him well, both parts of the lesson (theory and practical) were excellent. Even though I have experience in flying, I’d never piloted an Inspire before so the additional instruction regarding the DJI app, the UAVs characteristics, legislation and safety were interesting, informative and enjoyable. Alan’s training style is fantastic and I had 100% confidence in everything we covered. The weather was perfect and my maiden flight could not have gone better.

I would certainly recommend PhantomFlightSchool to anyone who is interested in purchasing a new drone or upgrading an existing one, regardless of whether it’s just as a hobbyist or a commercial pilot.

I attended the flight course with Alan Proto in Chester, today, 9th August 2016. The session was excellent, with clear instructions and objectives. There was no ambiguity or indistinct direction . Every question was answered with clarity and obvious experience. Alan is personable and his teaching style easily agreeable. He has a natural flair for clear explanation. I would fully endorse this course and further say that it is essential for a quality beginning to a successful drone experience. I hope to move on to much better flying because of the thoroughness of this course.

Thank you again for your help and advice and making me excited about owning a Drone again 🙂 The difference between going to a Hobby shop and bringing the box home and then sitting there baffled by the poorly interpreted instructions and purchasing a drone from you with all your help and backup is like the difference between Night and Day .

I was buying the drone for my school, Beamont Collegiate Academy in Warrington so I needed teaching the basics before I could go and practice to become more proficient. Alan gave very clear instructions and made each step simple to understand. I ran a basic flight school for our students today and they loved it! The check list was really useful too. Would definitely recommend. We will be back to add to the schools fleet soon!

I have just completed my first lesson and it has helped gain the confidence I needed to be able to enjoy flying my Phantom. After one lesson I was able to take off, fly safely and land without any bumps, considering that my only other experience with drone flying was crashing my beginner drone into a tree and struggling to even hold a hoover.

I can highly recommend having a lesson with Alan he has a very good teaching style that puts you at ease and teaches you what you need to know to be able to enjoy the highly addictive hobby of drone flying.

This was my first experience with a drone or any other remote controlled flying object.

My introduction to a fantastic bit of kit was conducted in a very professional yet relaxed manner, Alan was so informative in the easy to understand lesson, setting up the drone as he talked his way through it all, he made it so easy to understand ( even for me ).

Then the exciting bit we went outside and after showing me the start up procedure Alan handed over the controls to me, wow what a buzz.

I know you can get this kit from other places on the net but you wont get anything like the information that you will get with the 1 hour lesson from Alan & Phantom flight school Chester.

I cannot reccomend this company highly enough.

I as a novice went straight home charged my batteries up and armed with the information and confidence that Alan gave me off I went on my first solo adventure into aerial photography, I am pleased to say it was a great success.

Still got lots to learn which is comforting to know that I can improve my knowledge and skill at a further lesson if required, its not a case of buy it and then your on your own.

Thanks Alan it was a pleasure.

My first ever drone, so naturally I’d never flown one either. I wasd rawn like a moth to a flame to the PahntomFlightSchool’s generous offer of free flight training with my purchase and so I gulped, and bought and arrange to collect my Inspire 1 from Chester.

My instructor was Alan Proto who settled me down with a cup of tea and off we went into all of the information about the Inspire and the app and the controller. I confess that I had looked at hours of YouTube videos but it wasn’t quite the same as seeing your own brand new drone sitting there waiting for the first flight.

The lesson was excellent and the brief flights that the weather was kind enough to allow ‘inspired’ me with confidence. The comprehensive check lists were great essentials which added to my knowledge base. All in all I can highly recommend the Flight School.
