Drones were made for Inspection. Especially where the alternative would be a person working at height. Falls from height are the most common reason for serious injuries on Construction Sites, and in Infrastructure Inspection. Once Health & Safety Officers wake up to the potential of drones to replace people up ladders, they are a willing audience with real powers to effect changes in work practices, away from ladders and towards drones, in their workplaces. Good news for all commercial Drone Pilots.
There is a big difference between simply flying a drone around a construction site, taking photos as you go, hoping for the best; and a proper, detailed Drone Inspection that will add value for your client and make sure you secure regular work in future. This In a Day Workshop shows you how to get it right, including:
- Flight planning & permissions
- Selecting the right equipment for the job
- Gathering the data, ensuring high quality and completeness
- Managing the data
- Presenting the data for maximum effect

The weather in the UK is not that bad, after all.
The goal of any Drone Inspection is simple. Is there a problem? If so, where and how bad? Or is everything you are inspecting in good shape.
In many respects, our favourite Inspections are where we can show our client they have nothing to worry about. In the case of one Inspection we completed, of an enormous complex of Listed Buildings, we were able to reassure the client that no roof work was required in the immediate future. They had been quoted more than £75,000 for scaffolding alone, to get the same answer.
Five Things you Need to Succeed at Drone Inspection:
- Which drone? Depending on the task, a DJI Mini 2, a Mavic 2 Pro, or a Matrice 210 or 300 with a 30x or 40x optical zoom, may be best for the job
- Which software? Drone Deploy is really good for this – in ways few people understand
- Just external? You can add huge value by including data gathered inside as well as outside
- Data Completeness? There is nothing worse than missing a bit!
- Data Presentation? How to ensure your client can quickly and easily make use of the data
This Workshop answers all of these questions, and dozens more, comprehensively.
Case Studies
We’ll start with a series of Real Life Cast Studies. Looking at the outputs from Commercial Inspections that we have conducted ourselves. Discussing what went well. And what went less well. The planning we completed, the equipment we used, the time things took, and how we added as much value as possible in each case. This will be an excellent way to get you quickly up to speed with Drone Inspection.
There will be lan extensive Q&A session at the end of this session.
You Undertake an Inspection Flight
Then we will head outside, for your Expert Drone Pilot to conduct a “Textbook Inspection” and then in order for you to undertake an Inspection Flight of your own. With our Expert Drone Pilot acting as Client, putting you through your paces, and providing advice on where your strengths lie, and areas which may need more work. Putting you on the spot like this, in a realistic Inspection situation, with a sometimes-grumpy and challenging client, is a fantastic way to get up the learning curve. You will also learn plenty, we promise, from watching the others in the group being put under similar pressure.
RealTime LiveStreaming
We will then demonstrate how to RealTime LiveStream the view from the camera on the Drone, to anywhere on Earth. Invaluable where a client sat at a desk far away would like to direct the Inspection and see what you are seeing while you are still on site.
Review the Data
Finally we will head back inside, to have a look at the data everyone has gathered, to discuss how we gathered it, and what to do with it next. Structured data is 100x more valuable to your client than unstructured data. We’ll go through in detail how to make sure you give your client complete, high quality, structured data.
There will be another Q&A session at the end of this thorough and comprehensive Inspection Workshop.
